Currently, the Xbox One allows users to watch live TV, but the system itself does not support recording functionality. Instead, that process is handled by your existing cable box. That's all changing in 2016, however, when the new TV DVR functionality for Xbox One goes live in 2016.
I am Super thrilled about this. I have never had DVR. Sadly the feature will only allow you to record over the air channels. So it will not work with payed for cable and satellite. However, this is a step closer. There are some other things you will need to know first before you will be able to use this feature.
Microsoft has confirmed that the DVR functionality will not work without an external hard drive.
Microsoft and Seagate recently announced a partnership for a new 2TB external hard drive made specifically for Xbox One and Xbox 360. 2TB = 2,000 gigabytes.
Microsoft engineer Mike Ybarra stressed that the TV DVR functionality will not negatively impact the overall Xbox One technical performance. Xbox One TV DVR will also work with the Xbox App SmartGlass app to allow users to schedule recordings on the go.
How do you feel about the new service? will you use it? Lets us know in the comments below.
